The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is an award-winning holiday market that has attracted well over a million people since opening. USA Today’s 10BEST travel media group named Carmel Christkindlmarkt the number one winner in the 2022, 2021, and 2019 USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice travel award contest for Best Holiday Market. Additionally, the market received the distinction of being the top Christmas market in the state of Indiana by Taste of Home Magazine in 2017, and it was named a top holiday market by Fox News in 2021. At the conclusion of the market, the ice rink remains open as the Ice at Carter Green for a few additional months.

The Carmel Redevelopment Commission funded the construction of the wooden vendor huts and beautiful outdoor ice-skating rink that forms the center of the market. This project was funded by the Carmel Redevelopment Commission with excess future taxes (TIF) from developer projects.
