The Tarkington and James Building at The Center for the Performing Arts is a $47.5 million project developed by the Carmel Redevelopment Commission. The Tarkington includes the 41,747 square foot Booth Tarkington Civic Theater, and the James Building features the 200 seat, 10,216 square-foot, black-box Studio Theater, and 39,395 square feet of office. Additionally, this project includes a 560-space free public parking garage. 

This project complements the Palladium, frames Carter Green, and together they have had a significant impact on the successful redevelopment of this area, transforming farmland into the thriving, vibrant, masterpiece it is today.

Construction on this project commenced in in 2007 and it opened in August 2011.
